Canyon Lake Author Brings Medieval Japan to Life!

by Dawna Thibodeau

Canyon Lake resident Sharon Curcio is no stranger to storytelling. From the bustling world of marketing on Madison Avenue to intelligence analysis in the U.S. Army Reserve, her career has spanned diverse and remarkable fields. Now, in her latest chapter, she brings readers an unforgettable tale of resilience and empowerment with Asayi: An Autistic Teen’s Journey to Topple a Shogun in Medieval Japan. Sharon’s journey to becoming an award-winning author is as compelling as her writing. After earning a B.A. in Humanities from Carnegie Mellon University and an MBA from Washington University in St. Louis, she made her mark in the corporate world before transitioning into academia. She later served as an Intelligence Analyst, even deploying to Guantanamo Bay for active duty. Retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 in 2012, she dedicated herself to writing full-time, crafting screenplays, poetry, and even a libretto for a stage production. Her latest book, Asayi, transports readers to feudal Japan, where a young autistic woman, silenced by a society obsessed with perfection, dares to challenge the status quo. The story is a testament to resilience, identity, and the fight for justice. Literary Titan hails  it as “a compelling narrative” that not only immerses readers in medieval Japan but also highlights universal struggles of self-discovery and empowerment. Now calling Canyon Lake home, Sharon continues to craft stories that captivate and inspire. Readers can find Asayi on Amazon in Kindle, audiobook, and paperback formats.
